3 Tips for Organizing Your Desk

Paper, paper, piles of paper-is there a desk under there?  Here are three easy tips to help you start organizing your desk now:

  • Start with visible paper & clutter first, don’t start by cleaning out drawers you can’t see into.  Start with what you can see.  As you create clear space you will be rewarded with more room and motivation to keep working!  Take everything off the desk and use the floor or another room to sort papers.  Place items back on the desk that you know you will be keeping such as phone, pencil holder, etc.
  • Sort your papers into piles and keep the recycle bin and shredder close at hand for papers you come across that you no longer need.  Use sticky notes to label the piles according to your needs.  Labels for the piles may look like this:  To File, Bills to Pay, Papers to Read, Things to Do, Calls to Make.  Or anything that applies to your situation.
  • When you have your papers down to what you really need, create folders with neat, clear labels to keep close at hand so you can start tackling those papers that need action!

Use these tips for organizing your desk and you will find the desktop again!
