I recently had a closet organizing disaster.  One entire shelf came tumbling down leaving a mess of clothing all over my closet floor.  I had to wait until until everything was repaired, so I had to leave everything on the floor.  After a couple of days of drying putty, it was time to load back up again.  I did and guess what?  It fell down a second time!

And this is what I discovered.  While I had round two heaped up on the floor, I just kept adding to the mess by piling on my dresser too.  It was almost like once I had a mess, I didn’t take the time to keep the rest organized.  It made me realize how fast things can get out of control for people.  No wonder they get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start!   I found it so frustrating to not be able to find the belt or the necklace I wanted to wear instantly like I normally would.  It proved to me just how great it feels to be organized.

So don’t let things spiral out of control whether it be closet organizing or some other area of your home!

Here are a few easy tips on how to declutter your kid’s closets so everyone can find what they need and get out the door on time in the morning!  Sounds great doesn’t it?

Declutter tip # 1  Only keep the current size your child is wearing within easy reach.  Use storage bins with lids to store the future sizes.  Be sure to label the outside with child’s name and clothing sizes for easy retrieval.

Declutter tip # 2   Keep clothing at child’s level so they can reach in and pick out their own clothing.

Declutter tip # 3  Keep a box at the bottom of the closet to toss in outgrown clothing for donation or for other siblings.

Declutter tip # 4  Make sure toy sets are stored together in labeled baskets or bins.  If there are too many toys to fit in the closet, box some up and store elsewhere.  Every few months rotate toys by bringing them out and boxing up the others.  Kids will be thrilled to see them again!

How to declutter kid’s closets is easy with these simple steps!

Closets can be a big source of stress and they are something we have to deal with every day just to get our day started!  Don’t start your day with stress, start it out right with a simplified closet!

Use these easy closet organizing ideas to get you started!

Idea # 1:  Remove anything from the closet that shouldn’t be there and store it someplace else.  Things that you may have stashed in the closet:  photos, humidifier, medications, gift wrap, suitcases, gifts, etc.

Idea # 2:  Remove all shoes and boots and place pairs together.  Really be honest  about what you enjoy wearing, what feels comfortable and part with the rest.  For a great way to keep boots upright when you aren’t wearing them, invest in boot shapers from Storables-I use them myself!

Idea # 3:  Remove all accessories such as belts, scarves and hats.  Place ‘like’ items together and choose the ones you know you will really use and donate the rest.  Use hangers made specifically for those items to store them or keep it simple with individual baskets.

Get serious about creating closet space for easy access to the clothing and accessories you love to feel good in!

I’m a professional organizer who has a very organized closet (but 0f course!) but it is very simple and I don’t even have a fancy closet system!  How do I organize my closet?

How I Organize My Closet Tip # 1:  I really, truly go through my closet on a regular basis and part with clothing that I no longer wear.  Why take up space with something I’m not going to choose?  I’d rather make room for something new!

How I Organize My Closet Tip # 2:  When I lost some weight I donated the larger sizes.  Why keep them around to get back into?  The goal is to not ever wear the larger sizes again!

How I Organize My Closet Tip # 3:  I turn my clothing hangers the opposite direction.  When I wear, wash and hang an item back up, it then gets turned the correct way.  At the end of the season I can see everything that wasn’t worn because it was never turned the correct direction.  It’s a great visual!

I organize my closet by keeping clothing that fits, looks good and makes me feel good too!

March 17th, 2009 Closet Organizing

How easy is it for you to get dressed each day?  Can you reach right into the closet and get your hands on just the right pair of pants?  Wouldn’t it be nice to start that part of your day on the right foot-every day!

Well, my goal for everyone is that they have a closet that is filled with clothing that fits well, looks good and feels good.  Nothing with holes, rips or stains.  I’m not sure why you would want to wear anything that didn’t fit that criteria anyway, even if it IS comfy!

Use these three closet organizing tips as you start purging your own closet.

Closet organizing tip # 1:  If you haven’t worn it in a year you probably won’t.  The exception is if it is a formal or holiday item that you know fits and looks good.  But make sure it’s still in style!

Closet organizing tip # 2:  We wear 20% of our clothing 80% of the time.  So basically we keep wearing the same clothing over and over.  Dig deep, dust it off and part with the clothing you know you aren’t wearing anymore.

Closet organizing tip # 3:  Don’t hold onto clothing because you think it will come back in style again!  By the time it comes back around, it will have a new twist anyway.   Once I read that if you remember wearing it in the past, you are too old to wear it when it comes back again-uh oh!

Keep the clothing that looks great and you will feel great too!

I’ve recently stumbled across a solution to the age old laundry dilemma-the missing sock!  The Sock Sack  is a zip up bag where you place your soiled socks to keep them together in the laundry.  They go in together, they come out together!  They come in different sizes and colors along with an embroidered cloth label so you can personalize the bag.  Get each family member a different color, there’s even a Little Sock Sack  for infant socks-how cute!

Each Sock Sack comes with a hamper hook and a hanging loop.  You can’t lose the sack or the socks!
