New Home Organization

How do you get organized when you are moving to a new home?  If possible, start before ever leaving your old home.  The time to part with things that you no longer use is before you even pack up.  I have made several moves between Washington and Texas and I learned that I did not want to move anything that I wasn’t going to use anymore.  Why take up the space in the boxes?  Why not lighten the load on the moving truck?

When you’ve gotten your belongings down to what you really know you will use, it makes it that much easier to unpack at the new home.  You know that what you are putting in closets, on shelves and in cupboards is what you really want in your home.

As you unpack, be sure to place things closest to where you will be using them.  If you get all of your drinks from the refrigerator, don’t put your drinking glasses next to the sink, put them next to the refrigerator!  If you like to bake a lot, put all your baking supplies together so they are close at hand when a craving for brownies strikes!

New home organization is easy when you declutter and lighten your load before you go!

Organize Yourself With a Goal

You can organize yourself with clear goals for the space that you want to organize.  Really think about what you want from the space when you are done decluttering and organizing.

Let’s use a cluttered kitchen table piled with paperwork, magazines and toys as an example.  Currently a dumping ground.  What would your ideal outcome be with a clear table?  I’m going to guess that it will be that you would like to sit at a your table each day to enjoy meals with your family.  Another goal may be to have a clear, flat surface where you can play board games with your kids.

You can then continue to organize yourself by bringing a donation bag and a garbage bag over to the kitchen table and part with anything you are done with and ready to pass on.  Keep a box or bag on hand for all the items that belong in another room.  Place them in the box.  Do not take them to the other rooms until you are done organizing your table, you will get side-tracked if you leave the table!  Believe me.

Finally, think about what was piling up on the table.  The table had turned into a place where you dropped everything.  That means those items could come back.  The solution is to find new homes that are clearly labeled and get into the habit of placing them back in their “homes” every time!

Start with a goal to keep you on track to organize yourself easily!

Easy Tea Storage

 2032511

Pantries can become cluttered with all the different boxes of tea flavors that people like to have on hand.  When you have company and want to offer a cup of tea, it’s difficult to pull them all out so they can see their choice of flavors.  Well, problem solved with this Tea Bag Storage Container!  This handy holder is clear so you can see the tea, airtight for good storage, has six separate sections and can hold 72 bags of tea!

So gather all of your boxes of tea and decide which ones are still fresh enough to keep and which flavors you still like.  From what I could find on the web, tea is good for up to 2 years.

The next time you have company, they can easily see their choices and you can enjoy a warm cup of tea together!

Store Plastic Bags & Recycle in Style

Simplehuman has some great looking products that will fit into any modern kitchen.  Even if you don’t have a modern kitchen, these products can give you a touch of modern until you do!

I personally use  this grocery bag holder in my kitchen for all those pesky, plastic bags that come home from the store.  I make sure to re-use them in small bathroom garbage pails or take them back to the store for recycling.

Before you hang your bag holder, make sure you wipe the area with rubbing alcohol so the adhesive backing will stick well.  Mine has been very durable and hanging in the same spot for years.

This semi-round recycler is also a great tool in the kitchen.  It has two color-coded inner buckets to separate trash from recyclables.

Spiff up the look in the kitchen and help the environment at the same time!
