It’s easy for garage storage to get out of hand-tools, holiday decor, paint, old bikes, broken things you think you will fix someday, things you just don’t know what to do with-the list goes on and on! What do you do when the garage becomes overwhelming?
First, decide how you want to use your garage-what is your goal? Do you want to park one or two vehicles inside? Do you want to use it just for storage? Do you want to use the garage as a play space for your kids?
Next, make a list of the items you really feel you need to store in the garage for sure. You may have a list like this:
- Camping gear
- Kid’s bikes
- Holiday Decor
- Gardening tools
- Toolbox
Next clear out the garage placing items of the same type together. Holiday with holiday, bikes with bikes, paint with paint, tools with tools, etc. When you see how much you have of each type of item, it will help you let some of it go. Let go of items that don’t fit into your goals for the garage or find a new home for them. You’ve got to be tough here-you can do it!
Once you’ve got it pared down, load the garage back up keeping the items that are alike together. Take advantage of all possible storage space in the garage-shelving on walls, hooks on walls, even the ceiling!
Create your goals for the garage, pare down and park inside again when garage organizing is made easy!
