Grab & Go Spot

February 11th, 2009 General Organizing Advice

To help you get out the door on time while remembering to take what you need with you, dedicate a spot in your home as the “Grab & Go Spot.”  Usually this would be an area near the door that you leave each day to go out to your car.  Examples of things we may need to take:

  • Outgoing mail
  • Gifts/cards
  • Video tapes to return
  • Library books to return
  • Briefcase/purse
  • Car keys
  • Something we said we would give to someone else
  • Papers kids need to take to school
  • Return for a store

If you have a “Grab & Go Spot,” it will keep you from running around the house at the last minute trying to find what you need to take with you.

I actually have two spots.  One on the corner of a table in my office for things that will be leaving the house but maybe not for a few days or even a few weeks.  When it’s a day or two from that item needing to leave the house, I move it to my spot next to the garage door.  You can even have a basket or bin in your car if you want to place items there the night before.  Probably only a good idea if you are able to lock your car in the garage.

‘Grab & Go’ and make your mornings run smoothly!

  1. [...] See if there is anything that needs to leave the house with you the next day and place it in your “Grab & Go Spot”.  [...]
