We have such a myriad of things coming into our homes all the time! And if you’ve got kids then you’ve got even more stuff coming coming at you on a regular basis. But when it comes time to get serious about home organization and decluttering, then it’s time to get serious about why you are keeping the things you have.
Getting organized is not about just getting rid of everything in your path. Getting organized is about really evaluating what you have in front of you and deciding if it’s important enough to keep or if it’s time to pass it on. The end result will be that you have surrounded yourself with belongings that really have meaning to you.
Not all things are created equal. Not all items that you have in your home will truly hold the same level of importance. Not every item has sentimental value. Just because someone gave you something doesn’t mean you actually like it or use it. So when you are evaluating an item to see if you can part with it, first go with your gut. Often times you will know immediately that the item is not important and it can go straight into the donation bag. Other times you will know immediately that there is no way this item will ever leave your sight-you love it.
What do you do when you’re on the fence? Ask yourself you if enjoy the item? If it’s a functional item, ask yourself if you use it? Ask yourself if there is a way to replace the item if you make a mistake and want it again later? At this point you should have an answer. If not, keep it and re-evaluate in a few months.
Use this home organization tip to keep what really has meaning in your life.
