How I Organize My Home When I’m Overwhelmed

Yesterday I came home from running a bunch of errands and started to feel stressed when I had groceries to put away, various things that needed to be put away in several rooms, paperwork to look at that had been brought home from school and lots to do in my office.   I had already worked during the day and had kids that needed to get cleaned up and ready for bed.

What’s a girl to do?  How do I organize my home when I am feeling overwhelmed?  I’ll start with the good news-since everything in my house has a place where it belongs, it’s easy to restore order.  But I’ll tell you how I do it.

Step # 1:  Turn on some good, loud music.

Step # 2:  Then I choose a room downstairs in our main living area to start in.  I remove everything from the room that doesn’t belong there.  If it does belong, I put it in its correct “home.”  If it belongs upstairs, I just set it at the bottom of the steps to go up later.

Step # 3:  After the visible clutter or items have been removed,  I can then move on to deeper cleaning such as vacuuming and sweeping.

Step # 4:  Bring the items on the stairs to the rooms they belong in upstairs and put them away.

Step # 5:  Decide if I have the energy to do the same routine upstairs or call it good for the day!

To organize my home, I break it down into manageable pieces-you can too!

My home used to be cluttered. Then I had a Design Consultant from California Closets come to my home for a complimentary consultation. Within no time, my pantry, media center, garage, and linen closets were installed with solutions that were perfect for each room in my home. Life is great, we have so much more free time to enjoy family and friends. And affordable, too!

I find I have the same issues s ometimes with my office. If it’s not organized it’s hard for me to get to work, so I spend some time tidying it up, and always try to put things in their places, or spend 10 minutes at the end of my work day straightening up my office. That way I’m good to go the next day!
