If You Are Going to Keep It, Then Honor It

March 4th, 2009 Home Organization

I feel strongly that it is important for all of us to honor what we keep in our homes.  I believe that if we are going to keep something we should:

  1. Know why we have it.
  2. Love it or at least like it!
  3. Use it in some way-physically use it or display it.

Let’s say you have inherited your grandma’s china set but you have stored it in a box in the garage for the last five years.  Are you really honoring it?  Are you just keeping it because you feel guilty about parting with it?  Would your grandma have given it to you so it could sit in a box somewhere?

Step 1:  Pull out the box and take a good hard look at the set.

Step 2:  Make the decision-are you going to keep it and honor it or is it time to part with it?

Step 3:  If you are going to keep it, what are you going to do with it?  Use it or display it?  It’s ok to make the collection smaller by keeping 1 plate, 1 cup and 1 saucer and placing them on display.

Step 4:  If you have decided it’s time to part with it, find someone or someplace that you can pass it on that you can feel good about.

Use what you keep in your home and honor it!
