Layer, Don’t Multitask
It’s very tempting to try to do two things at once when we are rushed and feeling like we have too much on our plates. Ultimately, multitasking can slow us down and make us less efficient. It takes our brains 4 x longer to process our activities when we attempt to do two things at once. It also opens us up to being more likely to make a mistake. You make a mistake then you have to take the time to fix it-more time lost.
It is ok though to layer activities or combine tasks that do not require much attention to detail so you can get more done at once. Here are some examples:
- Taking a walk with a friend: You get exercise & time to chat.
- Cooking with kids: You get a healthy meal & time with children.
- Listening to motivational cd while driving: Learning & getting to your destination.
- Reading in the tub: That’s just plain relaxing! Add some chocolate.
Layer, don’t multitask and get things done that are important to you!
