Organize Your Home to Stay Safe

It’s important to organize your home, not only to feel good it in but also to help keep your family safe!  Some of the smallest tasks we do can keep up on maintenance in our homes.  Take one example of a task we do all the time-the bigger your family the more we do it:  yes, LAUNDRY!

I was putting laundry in the dryer the other day when I cleaned out the dryer vent.  Something that is very important to do regularly, but then you have the lint to get rid of which can create extra steps to the garbage can.  You can organized yourself easily for this step by placing any type of small container on the dryer if you don’t have room for a garbage can-I know I don’t.  It can be a tiny garbage can, a butter container, even a little box.  Anything that can hold the lint from a few dryer cycles meaning less trips to the garbage can.

I found a few statistics on the web from January 2007 to drive the point home:

  • Clothes dryer fires account for about 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths and 400 injuries annually.
  • 80% of clothes dryer fires in structures occur in residential buildings.
  • “Failure to clean” is the leading factor contributing to clothes dryer fires in residential buildings

So, you can take small, easy steps to organize your home and help keep your family safe!
