Organizing Kid’s Rooms

March 23rd, 2009 Kids Organizing

Well, here it is Sunday again, the day of  the week that my kids have to ‘get it together’ in their bedrooms.  If my world were perfect, every room in the house would be neat and tidy at the end of each and every day.  It turns out I’m not the only person who lives here and we aren’t all on the same page.  My kids have a different comfort level when it comes to their beds, floors and clothing, they happen to not really mind it being spread all around.  Now when I was a kid, I would stand at my door and check to make sure my bedspread was even on the edges before I went out to play.  I guess we are wired different that way.

So, as a mom and a professional organizer, it’s my job to teach them the skills they need in life to be organized and part with items that they are done with and, yes, they have organizing wall units with labeled bins in their rooms.  As a mom and professional organizer, it’s also my job to honor the fact that being neat and organized isn’t as important to them as it is to me and give them a little leeway.

So the solution in our house for organizing kid’s rooms, is every Sunday order needs to be restored.  It takes some of the pressure off of them and it gives their mom comfort that things won’t get TOO out of control!
